Broughton Hall Commercial Offices
The Challenge
A failed solid floor slab in the North Barn office suite at Broughton Hall, Yorkshire, was causing sound transfer to become an issue between tenants at first floor level and those on the ground floor. As part of a refurbishment of the North Barn property, the damaged floor was replaced with a new timber floor.
To ensure commercial tenants at the North Barn were no longer disturbed by impact sound or squeaking joists, Broughton Hall needed a sound insulation solution for the new timber floor. Moreover, the insulation product installed had to keep construction heights to a minimum so that the refurbishment did not reduce the office space for tenants.
The Solution
CMS Acoustics recommended Regupol SoundDeck Extra, a structural acoustic flooring system, to isolate the new timber floor on the first level of the North Barn building. Supplied as 2400mm x 600mm panels at 30mm thick, SoundDeck Extra comprises a high-density barrier base bonded to a resilient layer that is pre-bonded to flooring grade chipboard.
SoundDeck Extra, part of the Regupol SoundDeck range of resilient overlay platform systems, is designed for use with timber floors and delivers high performance sound insulation of 49dB and 55dB, for airborne and impact sound respectively. The shallow construction of SoundDeck Extra made it ideal for the Broughton Hall refurbishment as it enabled construction heights to be kept to a minimum.
By first applying Regupol isolating strips to the timber joists, Broughton Hall was able to install SoundDeck Extra directly on top. Finally, complete isolation was achieved by placing the accompanying SoundDeck flanking band around the perimeter edge.
Results
Quick and easy to install, the Regupol SoundDeck Extra system has prevented impact sound from travelling between the first and ground floor offices at Broughton Hall, whilst maintaining the space available to the tenants.
