Countryside Properties - Sportcity new build apartment project
The Challenge
Countryside Properties faced a real challenge when an incompatibility issue with a specific acoustic
material was raised two floors into its Sportcity development. Fortunately, there was still time to
seek an alternative solution for the new build apartment project, prior to undertaking pre completion testing
The Solution
Upon recommendation of the subcontractor, Countryside Properties turned to CMS Acoustics to find a cost
effective alternative material that would overcome shortcomings with the original product. As the project
was already underway, CMS Acoustics had to work quickly to find the right solution and implement it onsite
without delay.
Assessing the project's needs, CMS Acoustics engaged its team of design engineers who identified that the incompatibility was caused by the original material being better suited to a sand and cement solution, not the free flowing screed installed at Sportcity.
In light of this, CMS Acoustics specified the latest addition to the Regupol range - 7210C - a high performance underscreed product designed for new build apartment developments. Manufactured from recycled rubber, Regupol 7210C utilises an environmentally friendly solution to deliver a high quality material that isolates floors from impact sound.
Results
When the time came for PCT, Peter Redgwell, technical standards manager at Countryside Properties, was not
disappointed with the results. He explains: "The acoustic material issue was highlighted in the middle of the
Christmas period, but CMS was still able to turn around a solution in a matter of weeks. On top of this, the
performance level of Regupol 7210C exceeded what had previously been achieved with a pass margin of 11dB
airborne and 15dB impact."
"The product is also easy to install which is what you need on site. Its design means that perimeter details and perforations are the only variables that need to be closely monitored, whereas other products require several elements to be watched, making them more labour and time intensive."
The success of Regupol 7210C at Sportcity, and the ability of CMS Acoustics to turn around a high performance solution in a short space of time has led Countryside Properties to implement this approach throughout the division. Redgwell concludes: "For all of our developments using free flowing screeds we now specify Regupol as standard. And, because we're committed to PCT, we can ensure it continues to perform and our projects comply every time."
