North Liverpool Academy New Build School Project
The Challenge
As a new state-of-the-art educational facility, North Liverpool Academy needed to achieve BB93 compliance and at the same time create an aesthetically pleasing learning environment.
However, varying reverberation time targets throughout the Academy demanded a detailed approach to specification and a range of absorptive materials to deliver the required reverberation control.
The Solution
An expert in BB93 compliance, CMS Acoustics assessed the Academy’s needs and recommended a combination of SuperPhon Hi-Impact and standard SuperPhon wall systems.
Throughout the library and sports hall, 75 SuperPhon Hi-Impact panels at 2m x 1.2m x 62mm were installed. For the 6th form area and dedicated TV studios, a total of 310 standard SuperPhon panels at 1m x 1.5m x 50mm were specified.
As a cost effective and highly absorbent acoustic panel system, SuperPhon Hi-Impact provides superior levels of sound absorption combined with impact resistance. All SuperPhon systems are quick and easy to install. A permanent non-visible fixing system, which incorporates a steel wall fixing plate, was used at the Academy.
As part of the CMS SuperPhon range, SuperPhon Hi-Impact panels comprise sound absorbent, non-combustible glass fibreboard with a front panel of thermally bonded polyester acoustic fibre and a tough, high density polyester backing. At the Academy, the panels were faced with an open-weave acoustic fabric covering in the ‘Marmalade’ colour scheme.
Results
SuperPhon Hi-Impact panels improve listening conditions by impeding the transmission of sound through the panel and by absorption of sound at the surface. As a high performance system, SuperPhon Hi-Impact is capable of achieving a sound absorption coefficient of up to 1.0 and sound absorption of up to Class A.
