Ramada Encore Hotel

Ramada Encore HotelThe Challenge
The Ramada Encore Chatham is a new build hotel in the dockyard area of Chatham, Kent. Constructed on remediated land, the contemporary hotel is situated over six floors and incorporates a bar, restaurant and meeting rooms, as well as 90 en-suite guest rooms.

During the design stage, it was decided that an impact sound solution needed to be identified for the bedrooms, to prevent impact sound generated by the footfall of guests from causing a disturbance to people in the rooms below.

The Solution
Following recommendations by the acoustic consultant, Regupol 7210C, a high performance underscreed isolation material, was specified and installed in all the bedrooms. Manufactured from a recycled rubber crumb granulate, the material is compatible with all types of floor screed. Ideal for new build projects, Regupol 7210C delivers superior sound insulation of 46dB and 49dB for impact and airborne sound respectively.

Undergoing minimal creep, even under high point loads, Regupol 7210C will maintain its high performance throughout the lifetime of the installation. Supplied in standard sheet sizes of 2,300mm x 1,150mm, with a guaranteed material thickness of 5mm, Regupol 7210C is available exclusively in the UK through CMS Acoustics.

Quick and easy to install, the sheets of Regupol 7210C were simply laid over a pre-cast concrete subfloor in each of the 12m2 hotel guest rooms. The system does not require separate perimeter strips; to isolate walls, the edges of the material were simply turned up at the floor/wall interface to achieve complete screed isolation and a sand and cement screed applied directly on top.

Results
Regupol 7210C helped prevent impact sound from travelling through the floor of the 90 guest rooms at the Ramada Encore Chatham, without increasing the floor height.

Stuart Ladbury, project manager at McLaren, the main contractor on the project, comments: “As the Ramada Encore Chatham is situated over six floors, impact sound generated by the footfall of guests would have caused a significant disturbance. Regupol 7210C offered an ideal solution to control impact sound at the development. With just 44 weeks to complete the whole project, the simple application procedure of the material helped us to meet our tight deadlines.”
