Regupol SoundBatten serves a recipe of silence for Saga Construction
Saga Construction has installed Regupol SoundBatten, a resilient composite batten floor system, at its refurbishment apartment project in Leicester. Converting offices above a restaurant into a residential space, Saga consulted CMS Acoustic Solutions to identify an impact sound solution that would overcome excessive noise transmission.
Assessment of actual noise levels during the restaurant’s busy periods concluded that an airborne sound reduction of 30dB was necessary for effective insulation of the properties.
Furthermore, conversion works had to be completed around daily restaurant activity, which meant the separating floor could not be disturbed.
Regupol SoundBatten delivered an effective solution that overcame the project constraints. This impact sound system comprises a resilient layer pre-bonded to deep (50mm x 70mm nominal) battens.
Onsite test results confirmed the floor exceeded the minimum airborne sound insulation specified in Part E (43dB), by an additional 15dB.
David Weafer, director of Saga Construction, explains: “It was important that the restaurant could operate as normal whilst works were being carried out. Not being able to insulate around the joists presented a real challenge, but CMS Acoustics was able to identify a solution which enabled us to continue without any affect to the business.”
Paul Absolon, technical director of CMS Acoustic Solutions, comments: “The apartments are situated above a busy restaurant, which meant minimum Part E requirements would not have delivered the necessary sound insulation. Having assessed the practical constraints of the project, Regupol SoundBatten was the most appropriate solution.”
Suitable for refurbishments and new builds, Regupol SoundBatten is certified for use with Robust Detail floor construction types MF1 (E-FC-1), MF8 (E-FC-2) and SF2 (E-FS:1).
The apartments are due for completion by December 2006.
