CMS Acoustics helps Alfred McAlpine stay within the law

CMS Acoustic Solutions has supplied Vertiface, a new acoustic wall covering system, for Alfred McAlpine’s custody suite development in Cheshire. Adhering directly onto finished interior walls, Vertiface is a retrospectively applied acoustic panel product that delivers a reverberation solution for BB93 compliance.

The new build custody suite had to conform to Home Office specification by using a carpet floor finish, concrete blockwork partitions and plastered walls. To ensure the construction met the required acoustic reverberation levels, Alfred McAlpine commissioned an acoustic consultant to identify a retrospectively applied solution. This resulted in the specification of Vertiface.

Assessing the project’s needs, CMS supplied 12mm thick Vertiface wall covering to line the corridor walls. Reducing transmission by absorbing sound, this delivered a Noise Reduction Coefficient of 0.4 and reduced reverberated noise in building interiors by approximately 40 per cent.

The installation of Vertiface can achieve an absorption coefficient level of up to 0.8, exceeding the 0.7 required by BB93 when using the 25mm thick product.

Shaun Jones, contracts manager for Alfred McAlpine’s northern division, comments: “There were some issues with sound transmission between the interview/custody rooms and the corridors. Timescales meant we had to tackle this post-build. As such, CMS supplied Vertiface to soften the area and was able to turn this round within a week.”

Vertiface is made from 100% polyester fibres thermally bonded in a non-woven matrix and laminated to a high density non-woven polyester backing. The range is available in a fine velour or rib finish. It is typically 10-25mm thick and is available in both rolls and tiles.

Simple to install, Vertiface offers a retrospective and cost effective acoustic solution. Available in 30 colours, Alfred McAlpine chose Spearmint to finish the custody suites at Chester, Runcorn and Middlewich.

CMS Acoustics managing director, Lee Hackett, concludes: “Vertiface is a new addition to our product portfolio – delivering an aesthetic finish with high performing acoustic properties. Having access to such an unrivalled range of products means we can always specify the most appropriate acoustic solution – at any stage of a build and for all types of development.”

The Vertiface range is a safe, non toxic, non irritant, recyclable product that is resistant to moisture and fading. It also allows the use of drawing pins should the surface be required as a noticeboard.
