Priory Community SchoolCMS Acoustics says ‘Tally Ho’ to Part E failure

After failing Part E testing on impact sound, the Tally Ho Inn, Tenbury Wells, has used Regupol 4515 Multi, a high performing acoustic underlay, to remedy poor acoustics and bring the new build bed and breakfast up to standard.

By retrospectively installing Regupol 4515 Multi directly on top of the failed sub floor, the Tally Ho Inn subsequently passed Part E onsite testing, achieving 55dB on impact sound.

Suitable for new builds and refurbishments, Regupol 4515 Multi is designed to attenuate impact sound at source. Manufactured from a PUR foam/cork compound, Regupol 4515 Multi offers long term and high quality performance without ageing or collapsing.

Exclusive to CMS Acoustics, Regupol 4515 Multi delivers Part E compliance with any floor finish. At the Tally Ho Inn, carpet was to be used as the final floor covering. As this had not been laid at re-testing stage, the 19dB improvement achieved on sound reduction will actually be much greater in practice.

Constructed of a tarmac hollowcore slab to comply with fire regulations, the first floor of the project had initially failed Part E on impact sound due to the absence of an acoustic underscreed solution. However, the simple installation of the Regupol 4515 Multi material ensured remedial works did not impact heavily on project timescales.

Roy Fazakarley, owner of the Tally Ho Inn, elaborates: “Although the first floor had comfortably passed airborne sound requirements, transmission of impact energy needed to be controlled in order for the project to be viable.

“Installing Regupol 4515 Multi to the first floor delivered an improvement far higher than we had anticipated. I wouldn’t hesitate in the recommendation of this solution going forward.”

Suitable for all floor finishes including ceramic and vinyl tiles, wood and laminates, carpet and marmoleum/linoleum, Regupol 4515 Multi is provided in a standard roll thickness of 4.5mm. Other thicknesses are available upon request.

David Holder, director of CMS Acoustics comments: “While the majority of residential developments pass Part E onsite testing first time, for those that do not it is essential to understand why a site has failed and then know how to correct it with minimal disruption.

“As a high performing solution which is very straightforward to install, Regupol 4515 Multi offers a simple way of bringing a failed floor up to standard whilst being compatible with any final floor finish.”

Regupol 4515 Multi is one of two solutions in the Regupol 4515 range. The second, Regupol 4515 Eco, is made from a rubber/cork compound. Offering a lower cost alternative to Regupol 4515 Multi, Regupol 4515 Eco meets Part E requirements where hardwood and laminate floor finishes are being used.
