Midland Hotel, MorecambeCMS Acoustics makes an Urban Splash at the seaside

FirRegupol 4515 Multi, a high performance polyurethane (PUR) foam and cork acoustic underlay, has been installed at the Midland Hotel, Morecambe.

As part of an extensive £11 million restoration project by award winning property developer Urban Splash, 700m2 of Regupol 4515 Multi was used in the 44 guest suites at the iconic 1930s Art Deco hotel, to prevent impact sound generated by footfall from disturbing the hotel guests.

A key consideration when selecting the acoustic treatment was the irregular shape of the guest rooms in the Grade II listed building. As a result, acoustic consultants, RPS Gregory specified Regupol 4515 Multi, which provided a flexible and cost effective acoustic solution for the hotel. Regupol 4515 Multi delivers superior impact sound insulation of up to 18dB, as proven by extensive independent testing.

Quick and easy to install, the material was simply cut to size and bonded to the subfloors, with the final floor finish laid directly on top. Compatible with any final floor finish, at the Midland Hotel, carpet was selected for the guest rooms.

Andrew Parkin, acoustic consultant, RPS Gregory, commented that they had already used Regupol 4515 Multi for previous projects so they knew it was extremely reliable and easy to install.

Supplied in standard thicknesses of 3mm or 4.5mm and in 18m and 20m rolls respectively, Regupol 4515 Multi offers long term performance without ageing or collapsing, even under high point loads. Moreover, the PUR foam/cork composition of the material eliminates the risk of plasticizer migration, which can occur with rubber/cork compounds.

Paul Jones, development manager, Urban Splash, comments: “The Midland Hotel is the first hotel to be developed and managed by Urban Splash. Every aspect of the restoration had to be carefully planned at the design stage to achieve a unique balance between preserving the original Art Deco features and character of this iconic building, whilst meeting the demands of the modern hospitality market.”
