CMS Acoustics Creates Sound Solution for Home Cinema
The UK’s leading provider of acoustic systems, CMS Acoustic Solutions, has specified a bespoke range of acoustic treatments for a purpose-built luxury home cinema, optimising the room acoustics to maximise the celluloid experience for the home’s residents.
As the cinema is located on the ground floor of the dwelling, CMS Acoustics recommended a range of sound solutions which would improve the acoustics of the room, as well as minimise the transfer of sound to the adjacent family rooms.
David Holder, sales director, CMS Acoustics, comments: “Enhancing the acoustics within a home cinema is essential to gain maximum enjoyment from the room, without causing a disturbance to the other building occupants. The breadth of CMS Acoustics’ product portfolio meant we were able to provide high performance solutions in keeping with the interior design of the room.”
To optimise the reverberation times within the cinema, approved installers, Pace Installations Limited, fitted 16mm thick Vertiface Composition panels in ‘Noir’ on the interior walls. For additional sound absorption properties, the panels were installed onto timber battens to create an air void between the panels and the wall.
12mm thick Vertiface Composition, a flexible acoustic wall covering system, was specified for the entire ceiling area of the cinema to absorb different sound frequencies not absorbed by the wall panels. Selected in ‘theatre’, a stylish deep red colour, the ceiling panels complemented the black Vertiface Composition panels and gold art deco fittings.
To minimise the breakout of low frequency noise from the cinema to the living area directly above, 5kg CMS Barrier Mat, a cost effective high-density sound barrier, was installed between two layers of plasterboard in the ceiling.
Prior to the installation of cinema seats, 12mm SoundLay Plus was applied to the subfloor to help control impact and airborne noise. Designed for timber floor applications, SoundLay Plus is a premium acoustic underlay system with proven performance levels of 55dB and 49dB for impact and airborne sound respectively. Suitable for use with all final floor finishes, at the home cinema a carpeted finish was bonded directly to the SoundLay Plus material.
Jamie Preston, construction director at Pace Installations Limited, comments: “Working in a private residence presents a different set of installation challenges to a normal building site in terms of considerate construction. As CMS Acoustics’ products are always easy to handle and use, we were able to install the products efficiently, completing the project with minimal disruption to the occupants.”
