pupils work happily in classCMS Acoustics Becomes the Teacher’s Pet

CMS Acoustic Solutions is helping to ensure schools meet the requirements of Building Bulletin 93 (BB93) with the launch of their comprehensive range of acoustic systems for educational environments. Incorporating acoustic treatments for floors, walls and ceilings, the high performance levels of CMS Acoustics’ educational range has already been proven at Redland Green School, John Madejski Academy and the Langley Academy.

Designed to help improve the listening conditions within schools, BB93 provides a set of design standards for reverberation times, sound absorption and sound insulation, whether between or within spaces. Governed by the Building Regulations, BB93 is a mandatory requirement for all new school developments and a design target for higher education buildings and school refurbishments.

A key challenge in schools is controlling the impact sound generated by footfall on areas such as stairs and those above corridors and classrooms. Available exclusively in the UK through CMS Acoustics, the Regupol range of high performance acoustic underlays and underscreed systems, including Regupol 4515 Multi and Regupol 7210C, can be used to effectively control impact sound in these areas.

Where reverberation times need to be reduced, for example in classrooms or gymnasiums, acoustic wall coverings and panels such as Vertiface Composition and the CMS Superphon range, directly absorb sound to improve listening conditions. With a wide range of vibrant colours available, these interior wall treatments provide an aesthetically pleasing sound absorption solution that can be used to create a design feature or to blend in with the existing environment.

In addition, CMS Acoustics also offers effective acoustic treatments for ceilings, allowing products to be placed out of the reach of pupils. Designed for use in locations requiring extremely high levels of acoustic absorption, such systems include CMS Melamine, a fire resistant acoustic foam and QuietStone, a hardwearing and versatile acoustic cladding material.

David Holder, sales director, comments: “Nuisance noise in schools has a major effect on teaching and learning. Identifying the most appropriate treatment for a particular acoustic challenge, whether at the design stage or retrospectively, ensures that students don’t miss a word during lessons. Our range of acoustic solutions for floors, walls and ceilings provides a straightforward and cost effective method of helping schools to meet the requirements of BB93.”
